The Streeter, an upscale residential rental development in Chicago's hot Streeterville neighborhood, needed photos of its amenities areas for website and brochure use. Caroline Sluys of Flow creative specifically wanted to show the pool and deck area, the Fitness Center and the Business Center.
Though scheduled for shooting later in the week, we jumped at the brilliant Tuesday sunshine and shot half a dozen views of the pool, highlighting the curving architectural details of the rooftop deck. The cool October weather kept sunbathers away, simplifying the logistics a bit. When an early snowstorm blew in two days later, we were very happy to have this one "in the can".
Shooting the Fitness Center was an exercise in balancing existing light with flash. The mirrored far wall lengthened the room visually, and a moment of soft sunshine conveniently dappled the foreground floor.
The Business Center presented the biggest composition challenge, being laid out as a long narrow space. We opted to shoot across the broadest section, which opened up the feel of the room and showed the lake view (shot previously on the sunny pool day session). Computer screens were then installed digitally and the artwork placed on the far wall.
